Youth Curriculum, 4-2-23

Youth & Family Ministry is hosting an Easter Egg Hunt after service and CSL’s Easter Potluck for the youth of all ages.

Parents signing their children up for Wildkind Academy’s outdoor education day camp after service on April 23rd, stop by to see Adrienne in the youth class to sign your waiver for the event.

Curriculum Overview

Youth create a dream growth chart using the different stages of a plant, from seed to flower, as an example of what stage their goals are in. This symbolizes how our goals need nurturing at different stages. Being powerfully vulnerable, we share and then care for the goals we may have ignored and also recognize and allow our accomplishments to inspire new ideas.

2023 Theme: Living Out Loud!
April Monthly Theme: The Power of Vulnerability
Week 1 Value: Defining and Aligning

Affirmation: I express my uniqueness powerfully

Spiritual Lesson: No Approval Needed

Youth learn the power of being vulnerable. Turning to nature as an example, we see how a flower seed trusts that it will bloom as a flower or a tree that understands leaves will grow back in spring. We look at how our faith in positive thoughts produce the best outcome.

Just like Nature in the Spring, we can plant new thought seeds inside our minds and hearts, and we can also nurture the seeds we have already planted in our lives and watch them grow and evolve.

Active Listening: Book/Music/Video

Meditation: The Flower Inside – a guided imagery exercise to connect to our inner beauty

Music: Plants! – younger class learns a song to the tune of Farmer in the Dell about the beauty of a flower growing

Music: Pocket Full of Sunshine – older youth sing along to this lyric video

Book: The Magical Yet – younger youth – inspiration to keep growing

Animation: Spring – older youth – out of darkness, we realize the light

Creative Expression –  Plant Your Blessings and Intentions

We decorate our planter with affirmations, goals, and God qualities and choose from various seeds to plant. We create an intention and bless each seed as we plant them.

Connecting/Spiritual Practice: My Dream Garden

We will draw our favorite plant at each stage of growth. Next to the different plant stages, we will write or draw some of our goals next to their stage. Finally, we will add clouds and label them with bigger goals and Easter Eggs with our God qualities.
