Youth Curriculum, 7-2-23

Announcements:

Save the date July 23rd after service from 12:45-2 pm for a Youth & Family parent circle. This gathering will be the first of ongoing quarterly parent circles where we will share our intentions for our family’s spiritual growth and support one another with resources for growing our youth into powerful and joy-filled humans.

There is still time to offer teen camp participation support for Ocean. Find the donation button on our website and select youth and family fundraising. You can also donate in person with Adrienne or Marlisa– Thank you!

Curriculum Overview

Youth learn to speak their intentions and overcome the monsters in the way. Using lessons from The Four Agreements, we have fun creating our own power monster who uses the power of its word in the direction of truth and love.

2023 Theme: Living Out Loud!
July Monthly Theme: Speaking Truth to Circumstance
Week 1 Value: Monsters, Inc.

Affirmation: My word is my power; my power is my word.

Spiritual Lesson: Monsters, Inc.

We will look at what it means to live an empowered life – having an unshakeable foundation in the love we share with God. Using our words to create gives us power over circumstance.

Active Listening: Book/Music/Video

Book: Be Mindful of Monsters by Lauren Stockly helps children accept their emotions

Book: Words for Sale by Jacintha Mondesir is about a boy’s journey to being understood.

Book: The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz – This week, we will focus on saying what we mean and using our words to create.

Creative Expression –  My Power Monster!

Youth participate in activities to practice “what would God do” as they examine the first of The Four Agreements, learning to direct their power by what they focus on and the words they choose. We create our own power monsters to help us express our own truth.

Connecting/Spiritual Practice: First Agreement – Game

Youth will practice using their word to express an intention to participate in a game where various circumstances will be presented. Throughout their actions, they will focus on their original intention to accomplish their goal and win the game.
