Youth Curriculum, 4-9-23

Announcements:

Youth & Family Ministry is hosting an Easter Egg Hunt and outdoor games for all ages after service today.

Curriculum Overview

Jesus shows us that there is great power in vulnerability. Youth practice finding the good in something they don’t like and learn that being brave with their truth helps to make decisions that turn their dreams into reality. We enjoy an Easter Egg Hunt and outdoor games after class.

2023 Theme: Living Out Loud!
April Monthly Theme: The Power of Vulnerability
Week 2 Value: Easter: Rising into New Life

Affirmation: I AM open to seeing the good Life offers me today.

Spiritual Lesson: Easter: Rising into New Life

Jesus shows us that there’s great power in vulnerability. He wasn’t afraid to admit that he needed his friends, nor was he afraid to admit his need for God in that same moment. His vulnerability led to humility. Jesus was also honest about what he wanted. And in his honest vulnerability, his path became clear.

Just like Nature in the Spring, we can plant new thought seeds inside our minds and hearts. With truth and love guiding us, we gain the confidence that allows us to nurture the seeds we have already planted in our lives and watch them grow and evolve.

Active Listening: Book/Music/Video

Meditation: The Flower Inside – a guided imagery exercise to connect to our inner beauty

Music: Plants! – younger class learns a song to the tune of Farmer in the Dell about the beauty of a flower growing

Music: Pocket Full of Sunshine – older youth sing along to this lyric video

Book: The Magical Yet – younger youth – inspiration to keep growing

Eggs for the Hunting – Madam Two-Pecks tells her chicks how the universe was created from the World Egg

Animation: Spring – older youth – out of darkness, we realize the light

Creative Expression –  Choosing the Good

Using the power of vulnerability, we can learn how making difficult decisions can lead us on the right path when expressing our truth. We practice finding the good in something we don’t enjoy by naming it and then listing all the good we can find in that situation. We decorate and color our problems with our favorite things, allowing our perspective to change.

Connecting/Spiritual Practice: My Dream Garden

We finish decorating our own planter with affirmations, goals, and God qualities and choose from a variety of seeds to plant. We create an intention and bless each seed as we plant them.

We will draw our favorite plant at each stage of growth. Next to the different plant stages, we will write or draw some of our goals next to what stage they are in. Finally, we will add clouds and label them with bigger goals and Easter Eggs with our God qualities.
