Youth Curriculum, 6-23-24

Announcements:

This Sunday, June 23rd, at 5 p.m., is the INSPIRE Life-Skills Workshop for Teens and Young Adults—Mastering Communication & Connection. If you know anyone 13-23 who would love to be here, please let them know drop-ins are welcome. Workshops are held every fourth Sunday, and our next lesson is Outdoor Life Skills, taught by local wilderness experts. Register at CSLOLYMPIA.ORG under Youth & Family and Life-Skills Workshops.

Curriculum Overview:

Through activities and thought-provoking discussions, youth explore the concept of reaching higher heights in spiritual awareness and personal growth. Children create dream clouds to express their aspirations visually. Interactive readings and a lively dance party reinforce themes of courage and positivity. The session concludes with reflections on personal growth, emphasizing the limitless penitential we all have.

June Monthly Theme: Holy Boldness
Week 4 Value: Higher Heights
Affirmation: I set my sights beyond the clouds, past the stars, and even over the rainbow!

Spiritual Lesson:

In this lesson, children will explore the concept of being unbounded and unstoppable through activities that foster personal empowerment, freedom from limitations, and confidence in their potential. They will create expressive collages, discuss empowering stories, dance to uplifting music, and reflect on their inner strength and resilience.

Movement: “Ascension Dance Part”

During this exercise, children will dance to upbeat and empowering songs like “Can’t Stop the Feeling” by Justin Timberlake and “Happy” by Pharrell Williams, encouraging them to move freely and joyfully. This fun dance session will reinforce the idea of ascending to higher heights with positivity and enthusiasm.

Active Listening: Book/Music/Video

Book: “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” by Dr. Seuss, ages 4-7
Book: “The Energy Bus for Kids” by Jon Gordon, ages 7-12
Music: “Never Giving Up” by Fearless Soul

Creative Expression: Dream Clouds

In this exercise, youth will think about their dreams and aspirations and write or draw their dreams inside the cloud. Using their creative powers, they embellish their clouds and join in a dream-sharing circle to discuss what reaching higher heights means to them.

Connecting: Cloud Watching

Youth gather outside for a Cloud Watching adventure. They will be challenged to find a certain image within the clouds and then participate in the act of opening and releasing as they let go, letting their creative juices fly high as they open to finding new perspectives.
