Curriculum Overview:

April is an exploration of the profound power of gentleness in our lives, starting with self-compassion and extending it to our relationships, communities, and beyond. Let’s nurture a culture of gentleness together!

2024 Theme: A Grand Rising
April Monthly Theme: Giant Gentleness
Week 1 Value: Your Gentleness is Showing

Affirmation: “I let my gentleness reveal my giant Self.”

Spiritual Lesson:

Through engaging activities like Mirror, Mirror, and Compassion Stones, children will explore the power of self-compassion and kindness. Youth explore themes of acceptance and love, expressing themselves through art, poetry, or collages and learning to appreciate themselves and others.

Meditation Practice: Mirror, Mirror

After some morning positive affirmation practices, youth practice appreciating their bodies by standing in front of a mirror and stating out loud things they appreciate about themselves.

Active Listening: Book/Music/Video

Book: “The Invisible String” by Patrice Karst

Book: “Giraffes Can’t Dance” by Giles Andreae

Music: “Brave” by Sara Bareilles

Music: “True Colors” by Cyndi Lauper

Creative Expression: Compassion Stones

Youth will receive a stone or pebble, symbolizing the foundation of their journey towards compassion. They explore how they can offer themselves kindness and forgiveness in difficult moments or when mistakes are made. Youth decorate their stones with words or symbols representing self-compassion, forgiveness, and kindness as a reminder to practice these qualities towards themselves in their daily lives.

Connecting/Spiritual Practice: Gentle Creations

Youth will be prompted to express their interpretation of gentleness through artwork, such as drawing, poetry, or collage. They will be offered the opportunity to share their design and meaning with the group.
