Youth Curriculum, 11-17-24

Announcements:

Youth & Family is hosting a Parent’s Night Out this Friday, November 15th, from 5:30 to 9:00 PM! Drop off your children for an evening filled with games, music, a movie, and dinner—all taken care of by us so you can enjoy a night of relaxation and fun! Look for sign-up details in your email.

Curriculum Overview:

This week, youth will explore the concept of collective power and how working together can amplify individual strengths. Through activities, discussions, and creative expressions, they will experience the importance of teamwork and support in achieving shared goals, leaving them with an understanding of how their unique contributions can strengthen their community.

November Monthly Theme: Power to the People
Week 3 Value: Power Together
Affirmation: Together, we empower each other for the greater Good.

Spiritual Lesson:

Youth will learn that while each of us has individual power, joining forces with others enhances what we can accomplish and brings us closer to the greater Good. By practicing teamwork, reflecting on shared strengths, and creating a “Power Together Quilt,” they will come to see how collaboration magnifies our ability to make a positive impact in the world.

Active Listening: Book/Music/Video

Book: “Swimmy” by Leo Lionni

Book: “The Art of Power” by Thich Nhat Hanh (selected passages)

Music: “Lean on Me” by Bill Withers

Music: “Rise Up” by Andra Day

Creative Expression: “Team Challenge Relay”

Youth participate in an obstacle course challenge where two teams have specific support roles while their teammates are going through various indoor obstacles such as Object Transport, Puzzle Stop, Lava Floor Leap, and Balance Beam Walk. After the challenge, we gathered to reflect on what was the most challenging and observations about how working together made the obstacles feel more manageable.

Connecting: “Power Together Quilt”

Each child will decorate a square of paper with something they bring to a team or something they are good at. The squares will be taped together to make a large quilt that represents their collective strengths.
