Curriculum Overview:

February’s Lessons will guide youth in understanding the transformative power of discomfort through fun, interactive, and supportive activities, encouraging them to see discomfort as an opportunity for growth, learning, and resilience. Youth create a “Comfort Zone” collage, dance to music of their choice, and share how self-expression can help us step outside of our comfort zones.

2024 Theme: A Grand Rising

February Monthly Theme: Divine Discomfort

Week 1 Value: Lessons in “Uncomfortability”

Spiritual Lesson: Growth, Learning, Resilience

Youth are introduced to the concept of discomfort as a catalyst for positive change. The activities are designed to be interactive, allowing the youth to express themselves and reflect on their experiences.

Active Listening: Book/Music/Video

Book: The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson

Music: Grow As We Go – Cover by One Voice Children’s Choir

Music: Can’t Stop the Feeling, Justin Timberlake

Creative Expression: Comfort Zone Collage

Youth discuss how their beliefs about themselves and the world influence the way they handle new and uncomfortable situations. They create a collage representing their comfort zone and things that make them uncomfortable. They are encouraged to think about what they want to include in their collage to symbolize growth and how self-expression can be a way to release discomfort.

Connecting/Spiritual Practice: I Can Reach Beyond My Comfort

Youth dance to the music selections and share how they felt about the activities, the dance, and meditation practices. Then, they will share one thing they learned about themselves today. Their challenge for the week will be to step out of their comfort zones in some way.
