Youth Curriculum, 2-12-23
Curriculum Overview
This Valentine’s Day week, youth find ways of honoring the unique expression of who they are. Recognizing the things they have in common with others that help build unity and connectedness, they create heart-shaped messages to give out.
2023 Theme: Living Out Loud!
February Monthly Theme: Curiosity As a Superpower
Week 2 Value: Flow into the Infinite – Heart
Affirmation: I can bring about good in my life by intertwining my thoughts, feelings, and beliefs
Spiritual Lesson: Flow into the Infinite – Heart
This lesson serves as a quick reminder that our heads and our hearts must be in agreement in order to create whatever we want in our lives. A feeling with a thought creates emotion. It is the feeling that provides the energy to move the thought forward so that the thought can become a thing or an experience.
Youth explore through story and music what is uniquely special about who they are and practice connecting their heart and mind when manifesting their goals.
Active Listening: Book/Music/Video
Youth read Inside My Heart by Shiya Stone and Zen Pig: Here to Do by Mark Brown
We listen to I Send My Love by Karen Drucker and practice a Spiritual Mind Treatment about doing great things in the world.
Creative Expression – Sending Heart Whispers
We can experience true joy when we align our inner and outer selves, our personality and soul, and our head and heart. Using yarn pieces to represent our thoughts, feelings, and beliefs, we braid them to symbolize the “ingredients” for creating the life we love. We create Valentine’s Day hearts with special notes to give away during our community circle-up.
Connecting/Spiritual Practice: Cupid’s Bow Breathing
We think of someone to send loving – kindness or healing to and stretch both arms toward the sky, knuckles together. Pulling one fist back towards our chest, while breathing in deeply, we affirm our love for them and breath out with a whooshing “and so it is” sound as we let go of the bow. Returning hands to the sky, we open up our fists, sprinkling love and kindness down.
