January Monthly Theme: Stretching into Possibility
Week Value: It Flows
Affirmation: “Goodness flows through me like a river, bringing out the best in my life!”

Spiritual Lesson:

This lesson introduces youth to the idea that goodness flows naturally through life when we open our hearts and minds to it. By engaging in hands-on activities, reflective discussions, and mindfulness practices, youth will understand how to nurture this flow and let it guide their experiences.

Mindfulness: Flowing with the River

Youth are invited to visualize themselves standing in a peaceful, flowing river, feeling the gentle current of abundance and goodness around them. Through calming breaths and affirmations, they’ll connect with the natural flow of life, cultivating a sense of peace and openness.

Active Listening: Book/Music/Video

  • Book: Maybe: A Story About the Endless Potential in All of Us by Kobi Yamada
  • Music: “A Beautiful Day” by India Arie and River Flows in You – Yiruma
  • Book:  The Little Raindrop by Joanna Gray (younger class)
  • Music: “The River Is Flowing” (a simple chant with hand motions) (younger class)

Creative Expression: Flow Jar

Youth will create a “flow jar” by mixing glitter and food coloring into water, symbolizing the natural flow of goodness and abundance in life. As they shake the jar, they’ll reflect on how to release worries and invite joy, exploring ways to keep this positive flow moving in their daily lives.

Connecting: Thought Flow Mapping

Youth make the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and the flow of goodness in their lives while empowering them to identify and shift any blocks with a cooperative art project that symbolizes a blocked river and a flowing river.
