Staying Centered from Rev. David, 11-12-24
Staying Centered
This past Sunday, I mentioned that the trees and birds didn’t care who got elected. I heard a few comments such as, “Well, they will.” I realize that some of us are living in fear, and I wanted to speak to that.
Our conditioned intellect (and we all have that) likes what it considers “order and harmony” – which is really “things staying the same.” It likes control – which we’ll be exploring this Sunday. (There – order and harmony, now you know what’s coming.) 😊
Whenever it’s sense of “order and harmony” gets shaken up, it responds with fear. Anything new, any change – especially a seemingly significant change – is a cause for alarm. And fear is a bully – a loud, aggressive bully causing us to react often in ways that aren’t healthy in the long run.
Ernest Holmes invites to remember and realize that “God is in us, with us, and for us. We must control the [fearful] conscious mind so that the Christ Mind may function through it. We must permit the Spirit to control the intellect.”
The media feeds us fear. I can say that today, I could say that ten years ago and, unless something significantly changes, I’ll be able to say that 10 years from now. During times of extraordinary change such as these, it may be best to drastically reduce your exposure to all the fear mongering. Remember, what we put our attention on is where we direct our energy. “Where attention goes, energy flows.”
In our Prosperity Plus class, we’re called to shift from “condition based living” to “vision driven living.” In the first, we look around at conditions to determine how we’ll live. In the second, we let our vision drive us in spite of conditions. As I quoted Ernest Holmes last Sunday, “To desert the Truth in the hour of need is to prove that we don’t know the Truth.” This is a time to stand even more firmly in our principles and practices and not give in to fear.
And it is time to remember, as the great artist Pablo Picasso said, “Every act of creation begins with an act of destruction.” As has been happening for billions of years, change is happening. It’s the nature of Life. And when change happens, something ends and something new begins. Many of us use the phrase, “In a past life I was…” -not referring to a previous birth cycle but to an earlier time in our lives. In my 20’s, I was an artist – a painter, photographer, and poet. In my 30’s, I let that life go to grow in personal and spiritual awareness. For years I was a hard-core cyclist, but that life died so my life as a minister could emerge. We have our comfortable “shells” – our houses of our lives in which we live. But eventually we outgrow every shell and expand into a new one. (Or we live crammed and cramped in the same old shell until death pulls us out.)
Something old is dying. Something new is being born. Go with the spiritual flow – not the condition based flow. Quiet down the howling, bullying inner fears and listen to the quieter, yet far more powerful voice within. The nature of the Divine – and thus our true nature – hasn’t been changed by some election. The Infinite Oneness is still bigger than any politician. We direct the flow in our lives. Do we want to create more love, joy, true harmony, or more fear, separation, chaos, and hate? It’s our choice.
A great article from my friend Tama Kieves, read it here: “Calming Down in Times of Strain”
Stay true to your Divine Nature.
