Youth Curriculum, 8-11-24

Announcements:

Join us on Saturday, September 7th, from 1 to 3:30pm for our Youth & Family Parent Workshop: “Growing Together: Nurturing Spiritual Growth in Children and Families.” This interactive session will guide parents on how to deepen family connections, empower parents with strategies to nurture their child’s spiritual development, cultivate a spiritual home environment, and create a supportive family community while integrating Science of Mind principles into daily life. Snacks and childcare will be provided. Come ready to learn from each other, share resources, and build a supportive network of like-minded families!

Curriculum Overview:

This lesson explores the importance of dropping our metaphorical masks to let our true selves shine. By engaging in creative and reflective activities, children learn how authenticity fosters genuine connections and personal empowerment.

August Monthly Theme: Unstatus Quo
Week 2 Value: Dropping the Masks
Affirmation: I have the courage to be vulnerable and let my light shine.

Spiritual Lesson:

During the lesson, youth will create decorative masks to understand the difference between playful disguise and emotional hiding. They will also participate in sharing exercises where they practice being vulnerable by discussing their feelings and experiences. Through story time and interactive discussions, they will reflect on what it means to be real, inspired by the story of “The Velveteen Rabbit,” and express their own authenticity in a supportive environment.

Spiritual Practice: Guided Meditation – Unmasking Your Light

Through a 5-step prayer and guided meditation, youth align with the divine truth of who they are and embrace the courage to let their light shine authentically.

Active Listening: Book/Music/Video

Book: “The Velveteen Rabbit” by Margery Williams.

Book: “The Gifts of Imperfection” by Brené Brown

Music: “I Am Light” by India Arie.

Music: “I Love Myself So Much” by Agape

Music: “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman soundtrack

Creative Expression: Mask Making

Youth create a fun mask and act out their mask’s character. We then discuss how wearing masks for play is different from wearing masks to hide feelings and what it means to wear masks, both literally and figuratively.

Connecting: Vulnerability Practice

Youths pair up and share something that makes them feel vulnerable. They will practice listening without judgment and offering supportive comments, or writing compliments in each other’s “stroke books.”
