Youth Curriculum, 8-20-23

Announcements:

Youth & Family Ministry looks forward to having our families together for our Community Summer Potluck Picnic Sunday, August 27th. We will have plenty of outdoor kid-friendly games and activities for all ages, including a team scavenger hunt with prizes.

Curriculum Overview

Youth learn to show unconditional love and patience for themselves by focusing on their dream coming true despite any roadblocks. This will help them to keep going when self-doubt and judgment creep in.

2023 Theme: Living Out Loud!
August Monthly Theme: My Passion, My Purpose
Week 3 Value: Perfectly Imperfect Passions

Affirmation: My way forward is paved with the strength of an open heart and the power of an open mind.

Spiritual Lesson: Percolating Your Passion with Purpose

Today we focus on practicing grace and patience with obstacles that may appear along our path toward our goals. Youth learn to show unconditional love and patience for themselves by focusing on their dream coming true instead of how it is coming true. This will help them to keep going when self-doubt and judgment creep in.

Active Listening: Book/Music/Video

Meditation: Friendly Wishes – we imagine our loving thoughts like ripples in a guided meditation.

Book: What do you do with a Chance? By Kobi Yamada (age -all)

Book: A Walk in the Forest by Maria Dek (age 3-6)

Music: Loving Kindness Meditation (Dance Remix)

Creative Expression –  Staying My Course

Youths illustrate one of their goals on paper. They recall some doubts they have had that slowed down or stopped their goal from manifesting and write those on sticky notes and place them on a breaking board. Youth simulate breaking through these doubts by breaking the board to reach their illustrated dream.

Connecting/Spiritual Practice: Obstacle Course of Love

Youth collaborate to design an outdoor obstacle course that is both challenging and equitable for all ages, where raising everyone up is the key to winning. Everyone who completes the course receives a prize and additional prizes for each of their friends who also finish.
