Youth Curriculum, 5-21-23

Announcements:

Parents and youth & family co-teachers! Come help share with our visitors about our youth program during CSL Olympia’s Reunion Celebration on Saturday, June 10th, anytime between 10 am-4 pm. Bring the kids and enjoy some pre-summer vibes with us. We will have fun indoor and outdoor activities for kids and plenty of refreshments. Look for your invite via email from our youth director, Adrienne.

Curriculum Overview

Youth learn from examples in nature of how the most brightest of things shine against the backdrop of darkness. We play with shadow puppets, explore animals that can see in the dark, and share how we shine our light.

2023 Theme: Living Out Loud!
May Monthly Theme: Light Within the Shadows
Week 3 Value: Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star

Affirmation::  My star shines brightly within the light, and the shadow

Spiritual Lesson: Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star

You may have someone in your life who always lightens the mood or puts a smile on your face. These people live from the same spiritual truth, joy, love, and light of creation that is in the heart of every being.

Music: Let Your Light Shine, The Ball Brothers

Creative Expression –  Shadow Play

Youth play with shadow puppets and research sources of light that require darkness to become visible to the human eye, such as stars. We recreate the electromagnetic spectrum chart and draw animals and insects associated with seeing beyond the visible light spectrum levels.

Connecting/Spiritual Practice: This Little Light of Mine

Youth each receive a Light Journal where they will write ideas about sharing their light with the world. Today we take turns writing in each other’s journals, describing what we like best about the light we shine.
