Curriculum Overview:

This week, youth will explore the theme “Power to the People” with a focus on recognizing and embracing “Our Personal Power.” Through interactive activities, stories, and music, children learn how to channel their inner strength to make positive choices, stand up for their beliefs, and create meaningful change in their world.

November Monthly Theme: Power to the People
Week 2 Value: Our Personal Power
Affirmation: “I stand in my Power as a presence for Good.”

Spiritual Lesson:

Youth will discover that true personal power is rooted in integrity, accountability, and living by their values. Through stories like Rosa Parks’ courageous stand and role-play scenarios, they will experience how using their power with kindness and bravery can make a lasting impact.

Spiritual Practice:

Youth practice imagining themselves as a tree, deeply rooted in the ground, picturing their personal power flowing from the earth into their hearts, growing stronger with each breath during a guided meditation.

Active Listening: Book/Music/Video

Book: ” Brave” by Stacy McAnulty

Book: “The Art of Power” by Thich Nhat Hanh (selected passages)

Music: “Brave” by Sara Bareilles

Music: “Rise Up” by Andra Day

Creative Expression: Power Scenarios Role Play

Youth partner up and practice using their personal power in a given scenario. We will share how we used our power, how difficult it was, and how we felt afterward. Through this activity, we will share any inspiration we have gained about how we can use our personal power in different ways to make the world a better place.

Connecting: Power Partner Collage

Youth will create a partner collage that represents their individual and collective personal power using magazine clippings and words or images they feel connected to.

They will include words like “bravery,” “kindness,” “truth,” or “respect” in their artwork.

Once finished, they will have the opportunity to share their collage with the group.
