Youth Curriculum, 6-18-23

Announcements:

Youth & Family is seeking volunteers who love engaging our youngest with mindful creative-play activities for ages 1-4 during service on a rotational basis. If this is you or someone you know, please connect with Adrienne in our youth department. Ongoing training and requested program or scholastic letters of recommendation are provided.

Curriculum Overview

Youth recognize that choosing joyful activities is a valuable form of self-care and learn that true joy and pleasure are found within when they are present and embrace their true selves.

2023 Theme: Living Out Loud!
June Monthly Theme: Embracing Self-Care
Week 3 Value: Pleasure/Contentment

Affirmation: With a little perspective pause, I can choose joy.

Spiritual Lesson: Pleasure/Contentment

Pleasure is a pleasant deep emotion based on experiences that build positive feelings. It requires calmness and peace of mind and is a form of self-care. Youth learn that true joy and pleasure are found within when they are present and embrace their true selves.

Active Listening: Book/Music/Video

Book: The youth read The Three Questions by Jon J Muth, about a boy who struggled to figure out when to do things, who is the most important, and what is the right thing to do. He learns in an engaging way to start something, and whatever he is doing and whoever he is with is the most important thing for the right path to light the next right way.

Creative Expression –  I Choose To Seek Joy

There may be times when we are faced with what we consider to be unpleasant activities in life, especially those that force us out of our comfort zone. We challenge each other to come up with open-minded phrases to say to ourselves when faced with our list of unfavorable activities.

Connecting/Spiritual Practice: Creating and Laughing as Self-Care

Youth create a special Father’s Day project, practice some deep laughing with help from a contagious laugh track, and then make up silly yoga poses for everyone to copy.
