Wildkind Academy Outdoor Educational Event, 4-23-23

Youth & Family Ministry is Partnering with Wildkind Academy to offer seasonal outdoor education events for youth, teens, and their parents.

The natural world is a place of discovery where we can use our senses to explore its mysteries and experience a deep connection with self and Spirit. To feel comfortable engaging in the wild, learning a leadership mindset and the basics of wilderness skills for safety, competency, and ease of truly enjoying the outdoors is important.

Nature is alive with new growth! Spring is a wonderful time to gather as a community in an outdoor learning environment. As a group, we will take a spring plant walk along the trail to identify what plants we see and what might be edible, medicinal, or have utilitarian functions.

Wildkind will introduce the “sit spot” concept, and we will use the senses to engage nature’s many offerings. Being quiet, observant, and present in the forest allows for heightened observation and helps increase intuition and our ability to feel.

We will cover as many skills as are appropriate for the group. The basics of fire making will be demonstrated, and we will enjoy time together as a community of friends and family by the warmth and light of the fire. Most importantly, everyone is engaged and enjoying their time together. We want the next generation to feel inspired by their time in nature, so instructor Jess will not rush through any particular curriculum but take the time to answer questions organically and direct the course flow with the group’s energy.
