September Monthly Theme: Transcendent Purpose: Living Beyond Limits
Week 2 Value: Purpose — The Purpose that Surpasses All
Affirmation: “I live on purpose and in service to life.”

Curriculum Overview

This week, youth explore what it means to live a transcendent purpose — one that surpasses all personal limits and aligns with Divine truth. Through reflection, art, music, and active play, children and teens discover that purpose is not only about what they do but about how they live, love, and serve each day. Inspired by Amanda Gorman’s The Hill We Climb, they recognize that their individual purpose is woven into a greater purpose for humanity. With Spirit at the center, youth create “Purpose Path Maps” as reminders that love, truth, and service can guide every step they take.

Spiritual Lesson

Our higher purpose is to serve life itself. As spiritual beings, we listen for the inner Call, reach for higher ground, and ascend upward into greater awareness of Truth. Purpose is not something far away to be found — it is alive in every act of kindness, every step toward justice, and every breath of faith. When we align with Spirit, our lives become an expression of Divine purpose that surpasses all.

Mindfulness: “Stepping Into Purpose”

Youth close their eyes and imagine walking on a path of light. With each step, they silently say: “I live on purpose.” They visualize Spirit shining at the center of the path, guiding them upward and onward.

Focus: “I live on purpose and in service to life.”

Repeat Affirmation: “I live on purpose and in service to life.”

Active Listening: Book/Music/Video

  • Book (older youth): The Hill We Climb (excerpt) by Amanda Gorman
  • Music (older youth): “Rise Up” by Andra Day
  • Book (younger class): What Do You Do With an Idea? by Kobi Yamada
  • Music (younger class): “Brave” by Sara Bareilles

Creative Expression: “Purpose Path Maps”

Youth draw or collage a visual roadmap with Spirit at the center. Radiating outward are paths marked by words, images, and symbols representing how they can live with love, truth, and service — in small daily acts or big life dreams. These maps serve as reminders that they are always guided by purpose.

Lessons in Action: “Answering the Call” Games

Younger Youth: Play a “Purpose Relay,” where each child passes along a heart token while saying one way they can help or love others (big or small).

Older Youth: Play “Higher Ground Steps,” where youth step onto cards with phrases like “Show courage,” “Speak truth,” “Be kind,” or “Seek harmony,” practicing what it feels like to embody purpose with each step.

Connecting: “Circle of Purpose”

Gathered together, youth share one way they feel called to live on purpose this week. We close by affirming together:

“I live on purpose and in service to life.”
