Curriculum Overview:

Youth will explore the concept that abundance flows when we appreciate what we have and generously share our gifts. Through interactive activities, music, and talent-sharing, they will experience the power of gratitude and generosity.

October Monthly Theme: A-Bun-Dance
Week 2 Value: More Buns to Share
Affirmation: As I share my gifts and blessings, I receive even more to be grateful for

Spiritual Lesson:

This lesson will leave youth with a deeper understanding of the connection between gratitude, sharing, and abundance. By appreciating what they have and generously offering their gifts to others, they will practice being in the flow of giving and receiving, realizing that life becomes richer when we share our blessings.

Spiritual Practice: Send and Receive

Youth learn the power of their intuition and share their energy connection with others through a spiritual practice in which the person visualizing “sends” the image mentally to their partner, who then begins drawing what they “know” is being sent. After a few minutes, they compare the images. Switch roles and repeat. We discuss how this activity demonstrates the abundance of energy and connection that exists between us, even when we don’t see it directly.

Active Listening: Book/Music/Video

Book: “Last Stop on Market Street” by Matt de la Peña.

Book: “Maybe Something Beautiful: How Art Transformed a Neighborhood” by F. Isabel Campoy and Theresa Howell.

Music: Count On Me by Bruno Mars

Music: “I Am So Blessed” by Karen Drucker

Creative Expression: Gratitude Circle – Appreciation Game

Youth take turns sharing something they appreciate (something about their day, a talent, a person, a favorite thing). Everyone thanks the person for sharing to reinforce the appreciation.

Connecting: Buns to Share

Youth will have a chance to prepare small buns to share with the community after service. While making the buns, we will discuss how sharing food is a great example of giving from the heart and how that can help create a feeling of abundance.
