Youth Curriculum, 11-3-24
Curriculum Overview:
This week, youth will explore the concept of inner power, discovering that true strength comes from within and grows when used with kindness, honesty, and integrity. Through discussions, creative activities, and role-playing, they’ll learn that power isn’t about controlling others but about making positive choices that honor themselves and those around them.
November Monthly Theme: Power to the People
Week 1 Value: Power Begins Within
Affirmation: “I go within to connect with my Source of Power.”
Spiritual Lesson:
Youth will experience that personal power is like the deep roots of a tree, growing stronger through self-awareness, compassion, and forgiveness. By connecting with this inner power, they’ll understand how using it responsibly and collaboratively can create meaningful change in their lives and communities.
Spiritual Practice:
Youth practice imagining themselves as trees, deeply rooted in the ground. They imagine their personal power flowing from the earth into their hearts, growing stronger with each breath during a guided meditation.
Active Listening: Book/Music/Video
Book: “The Invisible String” by Patrice Karst
Book: “The Art of Power” by Thich Nhat Hanh (selected passages)
Music: “Unstoppable” by Sia
Creative Expression: Power Poster
Youth design a “Power Poster” that shows what clean, inner power looks like using symbols, words, or people who inspire them. They reflect on what it means to use power responsibly and kindly. We invite the youth to share their poster with the group and explain what their symbols or drawings represent about their power.
Connecting: Role-Playing Game
Youth choose how to use their inner power with given scenarios and reflect on how it felt to make a powerful, kind choice. We share how our choices change the situation.
