September 21st International Day of Peace
|On September 21, the United National General Assembly will mark the 40th anniversary of its International Day of Peace, the purpose of which is to strengthen the ideals of peace around the world. The date of September 21 was set as the annual commemoration in 2001, opening the door to discuss how to promote and maintain peace among all peoples.|
Further, and most remarkably, this day marks an annual 24-hour period of global ceasefire and nonviolence for those in active combat zones.
As Rev. Trish Hall writes in the September issue of Science of Mind magazine, “The International Day of Peace reminds us of our commonalities. Regardless of where we come from or what languages we speak, we are more alike than we are different. Honoring those commonalities makes peace possible.
Each act, regardless of how small, starts a ripple. Imagine, for example, if we were all simply kind and respectful of one another, how different life would be. We can all contribute to the worldwide culture of peace through the generosity of spirit, prayer, advocacy, education, and ensuring access to clean water and health resources.”
Take one minute (or more) at noon on September 21st to pause and contemplate peace. You will be joining millions around the world, each contemplating peace at noon in their time zone, to create a peace wave around the world. Remember, we create by contemplation.
Additionally, watch and participate virtually in the CSL Heart of Peace event on September 21, at 8 a.m. CSL will live-stream the event on the CSL Facebook page. And, at the same link, you can “Drop into Peace” at the beginning of each hour for a 15-minute meditation, through 5 p.m.
A PRAYER FOR PEACE
Pray for peace
and make our hearts fit to accept it when it arrives.
Let us make our intellect and our soul and our will and our feelings
be ready to receive and hug her even before she arrives.
Let us return in the stillness of our own soul
to that ineffable Presence that is Peace
And proclaim it even in the midst of confusion,
that Peace that is the Power in the heart of God.
Ernest Holmes — Excerpted from World Peace Is Not An Illusion
Plan now to watch and participate virtually in the CSL Heart of Peace event on Sept. 21st, Tuesday at 8 AM PT (U.S.) The event will be live-streamed on the CSL Facebook page and on the CSL Heart of Peace Facebook group.
Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world
Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The UN General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire.
In 2021, as we heal from the COVID-19 pandemic, we are inspired to think creatively and collectively about how to help everyone recover better, how to build resilience, and how to transform our world into one that is more equal, more just, equitable, inclusive, sustainable, and healthier.
